Exposure to violence in social unrest, resilience, and mental health of older people in Hong Kong

ObjectiveOlder adults are prone to the negative effects of exposure violence on their mental health. This study aimed examine impact during social unrest and role resilience in health older people.DesignA total 1203 people aged 65 years or were randomly selected for a telephone survey using random digit dialing numbering method Hong Kong.MeasurementsA 13-item scale was developed measure violence. The Chinese versions Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale Startle, Physiological Arousal, Anger, Numbness scales measuring status adopted survey.ResultsThe results showed that more frequently exposed information, they have. However, witnessing experiencing not significantly associated with status. Older adults’ level had moderating effect between information health, whereas stronger respondents lower resilience.ConclusionThis emotional problems caused by related among should be properly addressed massive conflict. Their capacity is an important factor. Future interventions support services focus enhancing better equip them overcoming macro issues.
